There IS A Difference
March 2007

The 2008 Presidential race is fully underway. The dominate media is already obsessed with the various national candidates, the ones I call the “Usual Suspects.” These conventional politicians are already announcing their candidacy, lining up support, pleading for contributions, and otherwise annoying the American populace.

In many ways, it’s the same old story, the same tired, empty promises, and the same tedious rhetoric, building false hopes that ultimately result in despair and disillusionment.

This time, however, there is a different candidate, waging a different campaign. What follows is an exchange between a college student who asked a question and our candidate, Richard Michael Smith. Read on and see the difference:

An Exchange about the Campaign: Is it Serious?
December 2006

Following is a dialogue between an inquiring friend and the candidate. This is posted with the permission of both participants. The friend made several observations about this candidacy in an email. The candidate’s thoughts are interspersed with the original comments. This is taken from the candidate’s email response to the inquiring friend. (The friend’s name is withheld at their request.)

Hello, Inquiring Friend

Good Morning, America. How Are You?
June 2006

“Good morning, America. How are you? Hey, don’t you know me? I’m your native son.” The words from the “City of New Orleans” have been running through my mind as I’ve traveled, visiting with Americans and sharing our concerns.

Asking the question, “How are you?” produces interesting answers, revealing the pulse of America. Not surprising, there is a growing sense of frustration with the way things are, and with the way things are being reported. As one example of many, we have concerns about escalating gasoline prices and frustration with the record profits being reported by oil companies. It’s not that Americans are unwilling to sacrifice for a cause. There is alarm and aggravation, however, that our sacrifice contributes billions to the coffers of opportunists. Americans are willing to forgo our own interests for a season to help others. We have always done that. We get upset when brigands loot our generosity.

Text of Announcement — April 23, 2006
April 2006

Announcement

From: Richard Michael Smith

Hello, Friends:

For most of our adult lives we have voiced to each other concerns about our government, the burdensome bureaucracy, and the problems created for us individually by the political leadership of our nation. Well, the time has come, and now is for the citizens of this great country to step forward and be counted.

I have embarked upon a quest, one which I do not undertake lightly, and one which will not be easy. I must tell you about it, because, if it proves to be even moderately successful, it will have an impact on each of our lives.

This is a Quixotic mission that I am compelled to undertake. It has been a growing burden on my heart for decades now. With current technology available, this undertaking, though improbable, is not as impossible as it has been in the past.

I am launching a grass-roots campaign for the Presidency of the United States in 2008.

Are You Tired of Politicians?
April 2006

According to polls, Americans are disenchanted and dissatisfied with the results we get from our politicians. Americans are exasperated by the quagmire created by the elitists who rule our country.

Now, you can do something about it. The Internet offers you a significant opportunity to return this nation to a government of the People, by the People, and for the People.

How, you ask?

Do You Hear the Heartbeat?
April 2006

Listen to the People. There, you can hear the heartbeat of a great land. Hearts are together, beating as one.

That unity gives us power and influence. That rhythm pulses through us and builds a movement.

Start today and keep it going through all the tomorrows we have, so that generations to come can enjoy the blessings of liberty we’ve inherited and we share. We can give future generations more, so much more, than we are getting today from our government.
